PETA recognized the world environmental day with a giant sand sculpture of polar bear crushed under larger-than-life shoe and sign that read, “your carbon footprints have leather shoes” by PETA INDIA at beachgoers at puri beach in Orissa, India.

The 10-foot tall sand sculpture coincides with the India’s new environmental campaign; stress on the destructive effect that the leather industry has on the environment. He also said that India being the top producer of leather, the sculpture perfectly fits there.

Leather products with various types of chemical, dyes, oils, and finishes causes irreversible damage not only to the waterways and ecosystem but also to human beings health. Since leather is the most important by product of the meat industry the cruelty involved with the leather industry is not better, it contributes directly to the farm and slaughter house.

According to the 2006 United States report, raising animals for food creates more greenhouse gasses than the use of trucks, cars, planes and ships combined together. The damage caused by leather industry makes the country a major contributor towards global warming and further endangerment of polar bears and their natural habitat.

Therefore, the PETA INDIA puts their best when they says, “consumer can save polar bear and cows at same time by giving leather products the boot.”
