In the new ad of PETA Jiah Khan was dressed as the wounded bird wrapped in the kite string and next to it the tag line says that “Cut the Glass-Coated Manja, not birds”. This ad coincides with the festival of Makar Sankranti, during which number of kite are flown using Glass-Coated Manja. When this Manja falls on trees, the birds get entangled in the Manja and the wings of the birds get cut down. By this thousands of birds are killed every year.

This Glass-Coated Manja are not only harmful to the birds but also causes lots of human injuries and deaths, including passer by travelling on bicycles, motorcycles or scooters. Example of this could be the latest incident in Mumbai; a stray Manja literally slit the man’s throat.

Jiah Khan says, “Glass-Coated Manja is a public health hazards and also causes death for the birds that get entangled in it”. So we want all the Makar Sankranti participants and kite-flying competitors to immediately stop the Glass-Coated Manja and conduct their sport in such a way that it does not cause any harm to human and wildlife.
