There are over 500 species of Bombardier beetles Rea dominantly found in North America, South America, Europe, Africa and Australia. Within its body, near the rear end, the beetle has two pouches that house hydrogen peroxide and hydroquinone.  When aggitated, the beetle sprays the contents of both the pouches at the predator throygh a mixing chamber. the When combined, the reactants undergo a violent exothermic chemical reaction, raising the temperature to near the boiling point of water.   

The boiling, foul-smelling liquid partially becomes a gas and is expelled through an outlet valve into the atmosphere with a loud popping sound.  A single beetle can discharge up to 29 consecutive times and can spray at a distance of up to 4 times its body length.
