The dramatic Luck series by HBO features the life on the racing tracks. It is more of a thriller inducing adrenalin in the blood of all the thrill seekers by capturing mesmerizing scenes and stunts that the jockeys perform from the horse backs. It is said to have won over 3 million audience and a second season of the series is all set to start.

It is most often forgotten that the real heroes here are not the featured lead actors but the race horses that despite all the crashes, falls, slips, fall over are trained to produce a stunning effect on the screen.

On close observation the usual statement that “No animals were harmed during the filming of this program” was not displayed. On further scrutiny Peta discovered that 2 horses were gravely injured during the shoot and so had to be put down since they were not fit for filming.

Veterinarian Dr. Rick Arthur, the equine medical director for the California Horse Racing Board, backs up HBO stating that HBO shows immense acre for the horses during sand after the filming. The horses are fed well and are not made to over work the rest is all done by editing magic he adds. He says that while engaging in the filming of such a series accidents are unavoidable. And he pounces on Peta for launching complains without knowing the actual facts. But when Peta requested for the pathology reports on the two horses that were euthanized from the CHRB, those are not disclosed for the public came the reply.

Whether or not the horses were cared for forcing animals to do stunts for human entertainment seems stupid and the extreme situation where the animals are injured or killed is way out of the question.

This is a fun way to improve our memory retention and also concentration. If you have given in too much to work tension then just relax and try a hand at this game.

You will be surprised at how much you will like this game once you start you cannot stop playing.

Elephants are often associated with Long term memory. And it was creatures like the great apes and fox that were often associated with intelligence. However an experiment on a caprive teen aged elephant really proved that these gentle giants are soon to be added into the clever and smart animals list.

The elephant was lured by its favourite edible item on high up the branches of a tree.

After several attempts of lifting his trunk to reach the branch, sitting up on his hind legs to reach the branch, the elephant seemed to have given up. Only to return with a box that he plays with to be used as a tool. To eveybody’s surprise he puts the box right under the branch perches the front two legs on the box carefully to shake his well earned treat.

The use of tools was thought to be restricted to limited number of animal species but this experiment revealed that human intelligence is not to under rate any other intelligence.

Fashion industry has often been abused by Peta for its selfish usage of animals. This includes the animal tested cosmetics, textile materials derived from animals and insects eg: silk , and the list keeps extending.

However here are a few designers who are trying to adopt the Peta policies into their creations. Samant Chauhan, Anita Dongre, Lecoanet Hemant, Stella McCartney, LUSH Natural Cosmetics have pioneered this initiative on the large.

Samant Chauhan disapproves the use of silk in his line of clothes only uses the silk that go waste, knitting it with other fabrics to create designer wear that is eco friendly.

Anita Dongre’s Grass Roots take the proud stand of “The first Organic line of Dresses in the country”. These wears are inspired by the colourful vegetable dyes and she whipped up a range that was both colourful and chic. The fashionable gowns not only are organic but are also very much sort after as the range starts from 4000 INR. The organic cotton is said to be good owing to its properties and its ability to keep cool even during the hottest of summers.

Lecoanet Hemant who has worked with the top models and rollers now seems to have gotten his head into a new range of eco friendly wears. His Green collection employing the eco products i.e. cotton, poplin, khadi and handloom silk coupled with his successful original touch is proving a must have in all the diva’s list.

Stella McCartney is another recognized eco designer. Even her range of shoes seem are ecofriendly, made of PVS and other materials.

LUSH Natural Cosmetics has also joined the line up with its products bathing soaps, gel, skin care range, shampoos all purely organic products with natural fragrances.

Jallikattu  the traditional Tmailians Sport that is played after the Pongal Day involves the enraging the Bull and letting it loose inside a ring formed by fences and human chains. The young lads to exhibit their talents try and gain control over this bull during which inevitably results in accidents and even fatal injuries sustained to both the bull and people.

There were talks to ban this sport and even the bollowood Glam Boy John Abraham had thanked the minister of environment and forests Jayanthi Natarajan for her ministry’s decision to ban the use of bulls as performing animals.

But unable to let go the centuries old sport the tamil nadu gont. had come up with few more restrictions to make the sport safe.

well organised

The players had to register and only the registered were given uniforms and were allowed to enter the arena.

Jallikattu held on 16 th jan 2012 has emerged as a new sport without hurting the true tamil feelings both physical and mental.

Hoping for a time when bulls dont have to fight for a living.

We all love animals, few realize it, few are still yet to and I just did. I always had great love and kindness for animals but its all there in the heart. Never really did anything great to list it down in this blog. I am sure will do it in my future blogs.

Let’s say my first step will be to support animal free circuses. Animals are not ours for entertainment. The animals in the circus are being treated as a tool to get money. Have you ever been to the circus, have you ever wondered whether animals “naturally” ride bicycles?  It only happens by force and starvation. To force them to perform these confusing and physically uncomfortable tricks, trainers use whips, tight collars, muzzles, electric prods, bull hooks, and other painful tools of the trade. They live and travel their entire life in caged squalor.

There are hundred better ways to make money and hundred other ways to entertain yourself. Let’s not encourage them to abuse animals anymore. Avoid circuses, the basic help which anyone can do.

May we one day realize that all animals matter and may no animal ever die unloved again.

I have raise voice against “Animal Circus Cruelty” will you?

Say Hello! Leave a comment! Don’t be shy…!

Two new studies indicate that crustaceans feel pain and stress and two of many practices that may warrant reassessment are ripping the legs off live crabs and crowding lobster in to seafood market tanks. These findings indicate that all animals including fish, shellfish and insects can suffer.

Robert Elwood, the lead author of both papers, explained to Discovery News that pain allows an individual to be “aware of the potential tissue damage” while experiencing “a huge negative emotion or motivation that it learns to avoid that situation in the future.”

Robert and Appel gave small electric shock to the crabs within their shells. The crabs that were shocked left the old shell and entered the new shell, showing stress-related behaviors like grooming of the abdomen or rapping of the abdomen against the empty shell.

It has been thought that the behavior of crustaceans is mostly reflexive, but the fact that they showed signs of physical distress at the same time they changed a behavior in this case, moving into another shell, suggest they feel pain as well, according to the researchers.
